What to do if you run into "This site can’t be reached" Error
Introduction:
At Host4Geeks, we prioritize the security, availability, and performance of your websites. As part of our hosting security infrastructure, we use cpGuard's advanced security protection system to safeguard websites hosted on our servers from malicious traffic, automated bots, brute-force attempts, and other online threats.
To protect websites from unauthorized access attempts, cpGuard may display a Captcha Verification screen when it detects suspicious or unusual traffic patterns from an IP address.
This article explains why you may see the Captcha verification page, what it means, and what to do if you encounter website access issues, such as:
"This site can't be reached"
OR
The website does not load after multiple attempts to access it.

Why Do You See the Captcha Verification Screen?
The Captcha verification screen is a security challenge designed to confirm that the visitor accessing the website is a legitimate human user and not an automated bot.
On our shared hosting servers, cpGuard actively monitors incoming website traffic and automatically identifies suspicious activity such as:
• Multiple repeated login attempts
• Automated bot requests
• Excessive requests from the same IP address
• Scanning attempts for vulnerable files or URLs
• Abnormal website access patterns
Certain website locations are more frequently targeted by attackers and bots, so cpGuard provides additional protection for these URLs by default.
Common examples include:
https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin
https://yourdomain.com/wp-login.php

When a visitor accesses a protected URL, cpGuard may request Captcha verification before allowing access regardless if your IPv4 is blocked or not.
What Happens After Completing Captcha Verification?
Once the Captcha verification is successfully completed, cpGuard verifies your IP address and temporarily allows access.
You normally will not be asked to complete the Captcha again from the same IP address for a specific period of time.
This helps provide security without affecting the normal browsing experience.
Why Am I Seeing "This Site Can't Be Reached" Error?
In some cases, if cpGuard detects repeated suspicious activity from an IP address, the IP may be temporarily blocked by the server firewall.
When an IP address is blocked, your browser may display errors such as:
("This site can't be reached" "Connection timed out" "Connection refused")
This does not mean that your website is offline. It means that access from your current IP address has been temporarily restricted as a security precaution.
Common Reasons Your IP May Be Blocked
Your IP address may be temporarily blocked due to:
• Multiple failed WordPress login attempts
• Incorrect FTP, email, or cPanel login attempts
• Malware or infected devices generating suspicious traffic
• VPN or proxy IP addresses with poor reputation
• Automated tools or scripts making excessive requests
• Security scans triggering firewall rules
• Triggering ModSecurity rules due to suspicious requests or blocked patterns
• Sending requests containing potentially malicious data detected by ModSecurity
• Accessing restricted files, URLs, or application areas that match security rules
• Website plugins, themes, or scripts generating requests that appear unsafe
How To Get your IP Unblocked on the server and regain the access to your websites OR Control panel
Step 1: Open Your Website URL
Since Captcha verification is applied to web traffic, open your website URL in a browser.
Example:
If your IP is eligible for verification, the cpGuard Captcha page (Same as the image shown below) will appear.

Step 2: Complete Captcha Verification
After successful verification, access should be restored automatically.
If you continue receiving:
"This site can't be reached"
OR cannot access your website after completing verification, contact our support team via Live chat OR Support tickets.
Please provide:
• Your domain name
• Your public IP address
• Screenshot of the error message
• Approximate time when the issue occurred
Our technical team will review the security logs, identify the reason for the block, and whitelist your IP address if required.
Conclusion
cpGuard Captcha protection is an important security feature designed to protect websites hosted on our servers from automated attacks, malicious traffic, and unauthorized access attempts.
In most cases, completing the Captcha verification is enough to restore access. If your IP address has been blocked due to firewall or ModSecurity rules, our support team can review the request and assist with whitelisting after verification.
